In 2006 we started an experiment: The “International Journal for Environmental and Sustainability Communication”. The journals’ aims were setting up and inter- and transdisciplinary communication channel, bringing together scholars from different disciplines and connecting them with practitioners such as PR specialists or mediators working on environmental and sustainability issues. Moreover we explored the possibilities of the internet, such as a transparent, interactive peer review process. A growing audience and promising download number indicate, that there obviously is an inter- and transdisciplinary community interested in environmental and sustainability communication and that an open access journal works. However, without professional publishing structures it is difficult to maintain such an endeavour. A decision had to be made regarding the future development: keep on going as – small but beautiful - experiment or looking for like minded partners and joining forces. We decided for the latter path. The international peer reviewed journal “Environmental Communication: Nature and Culture” has developed similar ideas as we did over the past years. Given, that “Environmental Communication” is until know more focused on the US and environmental issues in a narrow sense, we strongly believe that the joining of forces and ideas might help bringing together and expanding the global community of researchers and research-interested practitioners working on communication issues in the fields of environment and – more encompassing - sustainable development. We like to thank you very much for having supported the experiment with your interest and participation and invite you to have a look at the spring issue of “Environmental Communication” where the “merger” will be announced.

"International Journal of Sustainability Communication: Research and Practice for a Sustainable Future" is a peer-reviewed, multilingual e-journal for sustainability communication. IJSC – the title stands for its particular focus in the current debate on sustainable transformation processes.
The open access journal offers a communication platform for researchers and practitioners to approach strategies for urging questions regarding the future. Connecting science and practice, the editors publish scientific papers and reports of projects and initiatives. For this reason, the e-journal creates a trans- and interdisciplinary portal for social and educational scientists, economists, media and communication scientists, and communication practitioners (e.g. mediation, public relations, consulting, educational institution).
Contributions in English, German, and Spanish are welcome for the following sections:

reports of projects, initiatives etc. - Students:
scientific papers and internship reports - Book reviews:
reviews of new publications (books, journal articles, book sections)
Accepted contributions will be published immediately and integrated ex post into volumes or special issues. Book reviews of new publications of the respective fields, call for papers, congress announcements, and all possible forms of support to create a lively interchange are welcomed and appreciated!
